ATTORNEY'S ADVICE (NSW) - NO CHARGE

ATTORNEY'S ADVICE (NSW) - NO CHARGE (for a change)

A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company:

1. Next time you order cheques, have only your initials (instead of your first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your chequebook, they will not know if you sign your cheques with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your cheques.

2. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put 'PHOTO ID REQUIRED'.

3. When you are writing cheques to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the 'For' line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your cheque as it passes through all the cheque processing channels won't have access to it.

4. Put your work phone number on your cheques instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box, use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your Centrelink Number printed on your cheques. You can add it if it is necessary, but if you have it printed, anyone can get it.

5. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each licence, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when travelling either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.

Unfortunately I, an attorney, have first-hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieves ordered an expensive monthly mobile phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Dell computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information on-line, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

1. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately, but the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them

2. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

3. But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)

Call the three national credit reporting organisations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorise new credit. By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away. This weekend someone handed it in. It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are some numbers which you might need to contact if your wallet etc has been stolen:

German boost for Lanka's resettlement efforts

Sri Lanka's efforts to resettle the war displaced will receive a further boost with Germany providing $ 450,000 to the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD) engaged in mine clearing operations west of the A9 road.

The FSD is one of the six INGOs carrying out mine clearing operations in support of the army. Northern Province Governor G. A. Chandrasiri told The Island that their focus was on the area west of the A 9 though mine clearing operations were also taking place east of the road. Among the INGOs are British, Danish and Indian groups. Chandrasiri said that all of them had hired locals under supervision by expatriates.

A spokesperson for the German Embassy in Colombo said their financial assistance to the FSD was in support of the Integrated Humanitarian Mine Action Programme aimed at helping IDPS to return to their villages. According to her, the FSD operation would benefit about 5,000 families comprising 18,000 persons originally from Manthai West in the Mannar district.

UN envoy lauds SL Govt

IDP numbers in Menik Farm have halved:
Holmes impressed with Govt's commitment
:United Nations Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Sir John Holmes said he was extremely encouraged and impressed by the rapid resettlement of the IDPs in progress.
Holmes made these statements at a joint press briefing at the Foreign Ministry with Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.
Holmes was in Sri Lanka on a three-day tour on an invitation by the Foreign Minister. He visited Jaffna, Vavuniya and Menik Farm, while spending a night in Jaffna.
During his visit, he had also been briefed extensively on the demining process.
In answer to a question whether the UN thinks that the 180-day timeframe set by the Government for resettlement could be kept, Sir John Holmes replied that timeframes are not important but what is important is the commitment of the Government which has impressed him. ……..
Quote
Stating that it was his fourth visit to Sri Lanka, Holmes said he had been to IDP camps and spoke with the IDPs. He said the UN had previously entertained concerns over the timing of the resettlement.
However, this process had seen a rapid change over the past three months, with the number of IDPs in Menik Farm having been nearly halved from its initial figure of 285,000 to 135,000.

A Joke -Taming The Lion

A circus owner runs an ad for a lion tamer and two young people show up. One is a good looking guy in his mid- twenties and the other is a gorgeous blonde about the same age.

The circus owner tells them, "I'm not going to sugar coat it. This is one ferocious lion. He ate my last tamer so you both better be good or you're history. Here's your equipment - a chair, a whip, and a gun. Who wants to try out first?

" The girl says, "I'll go first."

She walks past the chair, the whip and the gun and steps right into the lion's cage. The lion starts to snarl and pant and begins to charge her, so she throws open her coat revealing her beautiful naked body.
The lion stops dead in his tracks, sheepishly crawls up to her and starts licking her ankles. He continues to lick her calves, kisses them, and then rests his head at her feet.
The circus owner's mouth is on the floor. He remarks, "I've never seen a display like that in my life."
He then turns to the young man and asks, "Can you top that?"
"No problem," replies the young man, "just get that lion out of the way."

A Joke

A woman and her ten-year-old son were riding in a cab in New York City.It was raining and all the hookers were standing under the awnings.

"Mom," said the boy, "what are all those women doing?"
"They're waiting for their husbands to get off work," she replied.

The cabbie turns around and says, "Geez lady, why don't you tell him the truth? They're hookers, boy! They have sex with men for money.

"The little boy's eyes get wide and he says, "Is that true, Mom?

"The woman gets very angry but she keeps quiet. After a few minutes,
the kid asks, "Mom, what happens to the babies those women have?"

"Most of them become cab drivers," she said.

'Sri Lanka a peaceful nation'- USAID Asia Pacific Director

"Sri Lanka's war has ended and the country is peaceful. The government's forward march is successful and needs the support of the international community to rebuild", Aje Chhibber, USAID Asia pacific Director has stated.

Mr. Chhibber has made these comments to press and media following his tour to Sri Lanka. The USAID director was provided opportunity to visit the civilian welfare villages in North. "The Sri Lankan government has assured the United Nations that resettlement will be completed by January. As scheduled, resettlements of rescued civilians are being made in their places of origin".

Complementing the government's resettlement effort, Mr. Chhibber also made satisfactory remarks on the health facilities extended for the rescued civilians. Also refuting accusations made by some extremist factions about the situation in the welfare villages, he said the Government has given priority to de-mining activities in the liberated areas.
The agricultural projects launched in the civilian welfare villages are a good idea, he said. "There will be a new Sri Lanka within several years if these projects are continued as scheduled", he further stated.

Most of people from all developing countries including Sri Lankans are trying to migrate to developed countries due to economic reasons. People finds ways and means to land on a western /European country ,then seek political asylum from government is not a new thing. This was a well-known occurrence for last 3 -4 decades.

In case of Sri Lankans they pay about SL Rs.half to 1 million to to human carriers/smugglers.
Due to well organize LTTE human smuggling by big ships ,Sri Lankan Tamils had a better advantage to seeking refugee status in European countries ,on arrival they have tamil tiger supporters to welcome them and get advice what to do next to put a successful refugee application. As a example New Zealand refugee council staff consist of lot of tamil NZ permanent residents who successfully won their own refugee cases ,with the help of NZ tax payers money.
After certain win of refugee status ,then Nz PR ,then citizenship, they have a free access to bring down their parents and siblings. While most of them not having English knowledge or academic qualifications, no need to worry to finding jobs as enjoying welfare benefit or dole ,have more than enough time to come to Aotea center in Auckland city and holding placards to insult your own country which gave them Free Education till university graduation, Free Health, Free welfare benefits and all the other benefits others get. They must have to donate to LTTE (or get by-force) only $10 or $15 a month to by weapons , in return they get all guidance from same alike NZ refugee council Tamil (Ltte)sympathizers to how to live in peacefully in a western country without doing a job. Money collectors on behalf of LTTE ,having no record of money collection send some to LTTE in through various illegal paths and consume the rest to start own business or having a luxury life.

When the SL govt; end of war they(tamil refugees all over the world, present and former) went mad in fear of finishing the honeymoon under the cover of bogus civil war against tamils.
As a Sri Lankan I don't mind they settle in a economically develop country , but to get that ,humiliate ones own country ,which gave shelter till they become men, can evaluate how these beasts are .

Hunger striker's £7m Big Mac: Tamil who cost London a fortune in policing was sneaking in fast-food

By Stephen Wright
Last updated at 10:41 AM on 09th October 2009
He was the hunger striker at the centre of one of the longest-running demonstrations ever mounted in Britain.

For weeks Parameswaran Subramaniyan lay in a tent outside the Houses of Parliament as Tamils protested about the plight of relatives under attack in Sri Lanka.

At one stage, his supporters claimed he was 'critically weak'.

Tamil takeaways: 'Hunger striker' Parameswaran Subramaniyan, sitting outside the Houses of Parliament, secretly ate McDonald's burgers
The protest finally ended in June, but two revelations put it back in the spotlight yesterday.

First, police said it had left them with a £7.1million overtime bill.

Then it emerged that Mr Subramaniyan, 28, had eased his ordeal by secretly eating McDonald's burgers.

Scotland Yard surveillance teams using specialist monitoring equipment had watched in disbelief as he tucked into the clandestine deliveries.

Farewell to the father of "Street Drama" - Professor Gamini K Haththotuwegama

A well known university lecturer of literature, journalist, actor, film and drama critic, writer, drama producer and pioneer of street drama, passed away last week.
He has contributed a lot to those fields and his powerful criticism on social, political, cultural and economic issues had a great impact on people’s minds.
His novel introduction of street drama in 1974 with a young group of dramatists became very popular in Sri Lanka.
When we were university students some of our friends who joined his dramas, totally forgot why they entered university. They were going from one city to another with Professor Gamini Hattotuwegama and did not attend to lecturers for months. We too enjoyed watching his street dramas very much, and most of the time I was surprised to see the young dramatists’ courage to act on the streets.
His dramas were enjoyed by many from the streets, schools, villages, factories, police stations, army camps and even in jails, who had no time or way to go to the theatre.
His demise is a great loss to all the fields he had contributed to immensely.
