Sri Lankan way of financial managment
A beggar to another beggar: I had a grand dinner at Taj yesterday.
How? The other beggar asked.
First beggar: Some one gave me a Rs 100/- note yesterday.
I went to Taj and ordered dinner worth Rs 1,000/-, and enjoyed the dinner.
When the bill came, I said, I had no money.
The Taj manager called the police man, and handed me over to him.
I gave the Rs 100/- note to the police fellow as a bribe, and he set me free.
A wonderful example of Sri Lankan financial management indeed!!

Sri Lanka war crimes panel gets lost in translation

A key witness at the commission set up to examine the final phase of Sri Lanka's civil war has complained his words were not properly translated.
Douglas Devananda, a cabinet minister and ex-Tamil militant, gave a three-hour testimony in the Tamil language.
But he stopped several times to dispute English translations by an interpreter, who looked tired and stressed.
The panel is investigating war crimes claims at the end of the long war, which the Tamil Tiger rebels lost year.
Mr Devananda, who is the minister in charge of refugee resettlement, also overlooked several requests from the panel's chairman that he shorten or paraphrase his speech, which he read out.
At times the translation was virtually on a word-by-word basis.
Microphone issues
Friday's procedural problems were the commission's first serious ones, although at earlier sessions some witnesses have failed to speak fully into the microphone, and some of those present appeared unable to hear witnesses.

Sri Lankan shadow coach suspended
June 8, 2010
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suspended the national cricket team's shadow coach Chandika Hathurusingha on disciplinary grounds.
Sri Lanka Cricket interim committee chairman DS de Silva told Cricinfo that the decision to suspend Hathurusingha was taken after he had disobeyed orders to not abandon the team and return home ahead of the one-day tri-series final where Sri Lanka is meeting Zimbabwe at Harare on Wednesday.
"Hathurusingha is expected to follow an advanced Level 3 coaching in Australia from June 13, and he had wanted to come home early to be with his family before heading for Australia," de Silva said. "He had conveyed this decision soon after the first-round match against India. But I advised him that he can return home only if Sri Lanka fails to qualify for the final not otherwise. Despite me giving him clear instructions to be with the team for the final he returned home on Saturday.

How does DS is air lifted to CEO of SL cricket? Is any one heard of him after he retired ( not self retirement)from 1 st level cricket 2 decades ago.Definitley he wanted to cut short Chandika career in SL cricket.Actually Chandika's presence was not that importent in second sting cricket tournament ahead of 5 day coaching camp
in Australia.Chandika is a human and he should have 2-3 days quality time with his family just before the very important coaching camp in Aus.
It is not necessary to say SL cricket is sponsoring the course as so far any SLC CEOs did not give money from his pocket.(Silly comment)
SLC is very unfortunate to have a CEO who doesn't have any administration qualifications (practically or academically) in the time SL cricketers on top.DS's actions reflex his suitability for the top position in institute like SLC.
We can see more like this in furute.
God bless SLC!

Immigration Issues for our Sangha -NZBC
For over three years, it has been very difficult for our ordained Sangha to obtain Permanent Residency. The NZBC (New Zealand Buddhist Council)has been working hard to change this so that our Dharma communities can have continuity of spiritual care. We have identified the issues and presented Immigration Services with very reasonable alternatives that meet both our Dharma communities' and the Immigration Service's requirements. During the past two years, NZBC has:
written three briefing papers for government officials
met with Immigration officials on three occasions
organised an alliance of four religious communities who experience similar issues (Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Buddhist)
authored a "Helpful Hints" paper (for the previous government)
We have also gained some publicity; in December 2009, Radio New Zealand National's Nine to Noon interviewed our Chairperson, Amala Wrightson (download podcast here).
Recently there have been signs that our concerns are being heard by government officials, and that the Minister of Immigration is preparing to take a serious look at the problem.
We continue to liaise with Buddhist organisations to monitor the situation. If your organisation can provide us with examples of how this policy has affected you, we would like to hear from you as soon as possible. The Council cannot get involved in individual cases, but we are able to inform officials about the common problems faced by our communities.
Please contact Amala Wrightson at info@buddhistcouncil.org.nz if you have issues you would like her to pass on.
